About Us
We just wanted to share some information about us, our cabins and some things we enjoy doing in the Smokies. This will be an ongoing process and we hope that you will check back from time to time for new information. Please feel free to read what you like and skip the rest.
For those of you who don't know us, we are Roger and Cheryl Gilliam and live in Hickory NC. We are Christians by the good grace of God and try to honor Him in all that we do. Trust me, we fail Him everyday but we are thankful for His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord. EVERYTHING we have belongs to HIM, He has graciously allowed us to be caretakers here for a while. If it was all gone tomorrow, we pray that by His grace we would say as Job did in the Old Testament, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh, blessed be the name of the Lord".
We own an independent insurance agency in Hickory. This has kept us VERY busy for the last 12 years. We do Homeowners, Auto, Boat, Motorcyle, Business, Life and Health insurance coverages. Roger is also securities licensed and does investments and mutual funds.
We are blessed to have 2 precious additions to our household in the last couple of years, Snow and Sassy. You would have never convinced either one of us a short while ago that we would be referring to two "dogs" like our children. They both have quite a history!! We enjoy taking them to the cabins along with family and friends.
We fell in love with the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee many years ago when we lived in Franklin NC. Often we would just drive over for the day. At that time, Pigeon Forge was just beginning to grow. We loved the beauty of the mountains, streams and all of God's wonderful creation.
Years later after moving back to Hickory, Roger retired from Lowe's Building Supply and the Lord led us to buy a small insurance agency (auto, home, business, life,etc). Oh, the joys of self-employment!! Just kidding, Roger and I both actively work many, many hours in the office and the Lord has blessed us. When we finally began taking off a few days at a time away from the office, often Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg was our destination. We stayed in hotels but always said we would love to stay in a cabin sometime.
One weekend, we drove to Pigeon Forge without any reservations and decided to look for a cabin. We drove out into the Wears Valley area and loved it. It is a small farming community with lush pasture land, streams and mountains on each side of the valley. Quaint antique shops, gift stores, art galleries and several unique restaurants are just a few of the interesting stops in the valley. The surrounding mountains are brimming with beautiful log cabins and luxury homes. There is also a little known entrance from Wears Valley into the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Wears Valley is conveniently located between Pigeon Forge and Townsend. It is also just a short drive from the Smoky Moutain National Park, Cades Cove and Gatlinburg.
We rented our first cabin that weekend and the rest as they say, is history. We rented many different cabins in Wears Valley over the next couple years. Later, as the Lord led us, we decided to purchase a cabin to enjoy and rent to others. We ended up purchasing one and building another. We wanted to handle the rentals ourselves so that we could provide a personal touch. Being very particular, almost obsessive about cleanliness and details, we aim to provide you with the BEST vacation cabin rental you will find here in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee or anywhere.
Our greatest goal is to honor the Lord with our cabins and share His goodness and blessings with others. We want to provide a wonderful, relaxing place to vacation with your spouse, family, friends, church group, executive or corporate group. We are very fortunate to have developed many new friendships through the cabins. We recently had one of the greatest compliments by a guest, she said, "We have stayed in many cabins before and they were nice but this was such a comfortable place, we felt as if we were guests in someone's private home". Wow, they were guests in our private home! That is the way we want everyone to feel. We work very hard, along with our cleaning crew, to accomplish that goal!
We not only strive for the cleanest cabins but provide comfortable luxury furnishings as well. Our appliances are top of the line and we try to provide the little extras that most cabins do not. The home décor was my favorite part. My love for interior design and decorative painting led me to decorate our cabins with lots of unique details. You will find many of my own hand-painted decorative accent pieces throughout both cabins. I also had a great time finding a collection of small, vintage hats for display in one of the bedrooms at Tree Tops cabin.

For a couple years now, our cabins have been on a portal site for vacation rentals in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. We wanted to have our own site and I had been searching for the right thing for a while. I ran across a website for vacation rental owners. This site had information about a guy named Terry Kearns that develops and publishes vacation rental websites and other sites. I checked out several beach property sites that he was working on and liked what I saw.
Terry's whole concept is to make the site personal and different which is exactly what we hope to accomplish. The web is full of impersonal, cookie cutter type sites.
